Dr. Sherene Vazhappilly O.D.

Dr. Sherene Vazhappilly was raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and recently moved to Cincinnati. She did her undergraduate degree in BSc Neuroscience (Honors) at the University of Calgary and went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry (Honors) at the University of Waterloo (Class of 2019).

She’s won numerous national awards and honors during her time in optometry school, including the National Vision Grant Program for her video on Diabetic Retinopathy, Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS) Photo Competition and Article Contest Winner, Transitions Optical Students of Vision Scholarship Winner, Winning Submission from Waterloo for the ASCO Clinical Award in Ethics, J Pat Cummings Award for Third Year Optometry Student (AAO), Allergan Dry Eye Contest and Travel Grant Winner and University of Waterloo AOSA Optometry’s Meeting Travel Grant Winner. She went on to receive the OSI Award for Excellence in Practice Management upon graduation for her proficiency in her clinical rotations.

In addition to Waterloo, she completed her clinical externships in Red Deer, Victoria, Florida and Jamaica, giving her a variety of experience in ocular disease, cornea and contact lens, primary care and pediatrics.

​​​​​​​Dr. Vazhappilly is passionate about underserved populations, and has completed mission trips to Peru, Mexico and Jamaica. Whether it is talking about prevention, eye health or vision, she finds joy in educating her patients, helping them see better and giving them the confidence to take ownership of their visual and physical health. She aims to provide outstanding patient care and education in the exam room, and it is evident that she truly loves what she does. Dr. Vazhappilly spends her free time volunteering at the Gorman Heritage Farm, trying new restaurants, exploring the city or reading a good library book.
